Shows and Events during 2011

Littlewick Green - 29th August 2011

Littlewick Green a wonderful Country show ( like a big village Fete ) just outside Maidenhead. Apart from cars there is a brass band, lots of stalls, a pony show, dahlia and other flower/plant competition. Held every year.

We went as did about 10 cars from Watford Classic car club. The car show is organised by the Austin 7 Club so lots of their cars and a good selection of pre war cars generally, which is now increasingly rare. In one picture is a Yellow "Bean" - only a few left - not many made in the first place.

Watford Classics visit Ashlyns Care Home - 7th August 2011

Ashlyns is located in Chesham Road, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire within 13 acres of parkland ground on the historic Ashlyns Hall Estate. Ashlyns is an award winning single storey, purpose built home built around a stylish courtyard.

Ashlyns Hall is a care home owned by a man called Bill Hughes who owns a fleet of early Beardmore cars and a veteran (eligible for the London to Brighton Run). Beardmore was a car company that made taxis as well as "normal" cars. In fact I think their taxi business was more successful.

Every year they have an open day, this year it was held on Sunday August 07, with a brass band and stalls and cream teas and a BBQ. Classic cars are invited and park up on a field next to the home and some of the residents come and view the cars - some of them become emotional as it brings back memories for them of earlier times. Classics on the Green 2011 - 10th year, 3rd Agusut 2011

HATS OFF (or definitely on at 30 degrees) for the
10TH CROXLEY CLASSICS ON THE GREEN wednesday 03 August 2011

The day dawned hot and sunny with record breaking temperatures. What a sight to see rows upon rows of shining classics stretching out over two fields. The event took place from noon till late and it is estimated that over 1500 cars took part. These ranged from Rolls and Bentleys to the humbler Smart car, resplendent in its personalised livery.

In the afternoon the arrival of three very customised scooters provoked a lot of interest from car owners and the public alike. Most vehicles were, as you would expect, postwar though there were a number of pre-war cars present.

Most marques were represented and the standard of turnout was superb, with some cars looking as though they had just emerged from the showroom. There was no ‘Concours’ or ‘Best in show,’ this was purely a ‘fun’ event, and with such tremendous support it certainly lived up to its name.

There were a good number of trade stands selling a variety of items including spares, tools, toys etc, not forgetting those dedicated to looking after the inner man (and woman). A small fair kept the youngsters amused.

The Watford Club is noted for its charity events and the proceeds of this event which we anticipate to be in excess of £3000, will be devoted to the RNLI, Leukaemia Research, PBC Foundation, Diabetes UK and SSAFA.

Isle of Wight weekend - 3rd June 2011

Our 8th Visit to the South Island as the locals call it. Led and organised once again by Peter and Dawn Watson. 8 cars - 15 people in total spent Friday to Monday on the Island at Albion Hotel at Freshwater Bay. A small seaside village in a quite part of the south coast of the island.

The trip was timed once again to co incide with the " Old Gaffers " festival (of sailing) in the Solent . From its base at Yarmouth harbour. In the village also was a static car show organised by the islands classic car club and we, as in previous years, were invited to participate. It was a glorious day .

The weekend also took in glass blowing at the Needles, a visit to a working lighthouse at Niton, (which had been attacked and damaged in WW2) and lots more including cream teas and several long pub lunches and a visit to the Island's Steam railway.
